Course Description: An introduction to one of the computers most complex creativity tools and the industry standard in digital imaging. Learn how to scan, correct, and adjust tone and color. Use layering, masking, and collage techniques, as well as the many selection and editing tools offered in Photoshop. Also explore Photoshops painting and drawing options in combination with other image-manipulation techniques.
Objectives: The objective of this class are to achieve proficient skills using Photoshop, to generate a broad range of two dimensional images. The work you will produce should demonstrate a good understanding of both the technical and artistic/aesthetic implication of the medium utilized. The final objective of the class is to generate a portfolio of images that you will present as both electronic and hard copy media.
Methonds of Instruction: Course features leatures, step-by-step class assignments, and the opportunity for individual projects. Demos will be given and critques will take place during the session to chart student progress and discovery.
Requirements:
1. Attendance Policy: Three late arrivals equal one absence. No unexcused absences will be allowed. Excessive absences (more than three per semester) will result in a lower grade ( A to B, B to C etc...) Missed demos cannot be made up.
2. To have all the necessary materials at each class.
3. Respect the area you in which you are working. No food/drink in the lab.
4. All class assignments are to be turned on time. Late assignments will be graded down. At the end of the semester a final portfolio of all class assignments as well as a final project will be turned in on a CD as an electronic PictViewer slide show.
5. An incomplete will only be given in emergency situations.
Final Grade Breakdown: 50% class assignments/50% final project= 100% final grade
Grading Criteria: Grading will be based on the development of your work, attendance, class participation in critiques and assignments. Work hard in class and on your assignments. Try to understand and apply the technical aspects of the applications provided by tutorials and demos in class. Apply these skills in your own personal artistic expression/aesthics and you will do well.
Lab Policy: Drinking and eating in the lab are severly prohibited. Spilling fluids/food over a monitor, a computer, or keyboard could destroy it and jeopardize your work or the work of other students who use the lab.
Materials List: 1 zip MAC formatted 100MB disk and 1 CD rom.
